it me, pincushion!

whomst?

i am a girl who has been on the internet way too much for way too long and now i more or less live here

ive had a lifelong interest in video games, comics, and cartoons, and have been writing and drawing stories for more or less my entire life. around age 10, i took a lil summer course for game development, which eventually led into a lot of time spent messing with romhacking tools and fanmade level creators. so uh, to that end, im trying to make a video game, and this time maybe finish it for once! but i also do a lot of unrelated digital illustration just for the fun of it, and im always up to talk about all kinds of creative endeavors in a more abstract sense

but what is a pincushion, really?

so uh, this section is mostly for people who knew me as spicey and are wondering what the deal is

are there any fictions u would recommend?

gosh you are just too kind, letting me gush like this. here, let me drop a few dozen recs and give each one an elevator pitch!

games

celeste
ridiculously fun precision platformer with simple but tight mechanics that are incrementally built upon. helped me and thousands of others conquer anxiety and self-doubt. very challenging, but forgiving enough toward failure that you will get through if you keep at it
undertale
rpg thats famously hilarious, fun, heartrending, and tends to spark introspection. only a few hours long, but with lots of replay value, and novel mechanics to make combat interesting and funny. soundtrack contains some of the best music ive ever heard, period
in stars and time
party rogue gets stuck in a time loop, and tries to make the best of the situation under increasing duress. some of the most lovable and complex characters in any work ive experienced, and worldbuilding that keeps you wanting more. composed abt 60% out of flavor text
dicey dungeons
battle system is brilliantly cohesive and complex while so intuitive that you could figure out the basics just by looking at the screen. no game has ever done turn-based combat better imo. and the aesthetic is so charming omggg
ocarina of time
the story that almost singlehandedly sparked my interest in fiction and pushed me to become an artist. story and gameplay still hold up as long as youre playing enough attention. 3d version has much better visuals if the games age is too distracting for you
an untitled story
the only metroidvania ive finished, let alone 100%ed. world design is simple but can be so beatiful and interesting that youll want to see more. map is interconnected far more effectively than others in the genre. its aesthetic genuinely feels like it was tailor made for me
omori
probably the single best written story in any game ive played, nothing has shocked and impressed me quite like omori. combat isnt the main focus but still manages to have an identity of its own and is brilliantly executed

comics, usually on the web

foreach
very short, but still the all-around best webcomic ive read. visual presentation lets it tell its story in an incredibly creative and effective way. has the most consistently lovable cast in any webcomic imo
kid radd
forms the core of my philosophy to this day. takes a simple, kinda overdone premise and does ridiculously well at exploring it and finding something to say in the process, especially for an early 2000s webcomic. the humor can fall flat now but the dramatic parts still work so well
homestuck
story is confusing but fascinating and fun to figure out, its setting is the most creative ive seen, character writing is incredible, soundtrack is no hyperbole the best music ive ever heard. long and bumpy ride, but as low as the lows are, almost nothing can match its highs
paranatural
